India was my first third world experience – and it was intense. We arrived in Calcutta amidst thousands of Bangladeshi refugees pouring across the border. I was surrounded by a sea of poverty and beggars. At 19 that I was too intimidated to take out my camera and announce myself as a tourist. The thought of doing so was more than I could cope with; consequently, I have only two photos from my stay there (unlike the other countries I visited). But my stories from India are rich and deep , taking the reader on a sensory journey that will be hard to forget.
